Mission:
"Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community”
The objectives of JROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character,
and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.
The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. The curriculum
emphasizes the Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space
exploration.
Curriculum opportunities include:
- Team-building experiences
- Field trips / training opportunities
The AFJROTC program is Cadet run. This means that the students or cadets run and plan the majority of the program activities. The adult
instructors provide moral support and advice if the cadets require it. As mentioned above the goal of AFJROTC is to make and educate the
leaders of tomorrow.
Every cadet is issued an AFJROTC uniform that is worn weekly. Wearing the AFJROTC uniform is crucial. Failing to wear the uniform 70% may
result in a failing grade.
AFJROTC also encourages the cadets to participate in community service. Many AFJROTC have planned community service projects and
require that the cadets participate.
The grade for AFJROTC at Hidden Lake High School is based on the following:
Based on scores covering academic topics, quizzes, quarterly and final exams.
- Leadership training - 30%
Based on grades determined by exams given on classroom taught material, performance in corps', class participation, special assignments,
behavior, attitude and attendance.
- Uniform Wear and Drill - 20%
Determined by weekly uniform and grooming inspections, drill performance and military demeanor (bearing).
It is important to note that participation in AFJROTC does not incur a military service obligation or
commitment.
The typical AFJROTC curriculum:
- Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Jones teaches Aerospace science.
- Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Shaffer teaches leadership
education.
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is offered as part of the program usually late in the first semester. This link will take you to the official ASVAB information site.
